SoundCloud is a small catalogue here, and that is honest about the platform: there are only four things a track can accumulate — plays, likes, reposts and followers — and we sell all four. On most platforms a view is a view. SoundCloud is different because listener geography is visible — to the platform's own charts, which are regional, and to anyone who opens your stats. A track pitched to a US label with plays that all come from one country on the other side of the world reads wrong to the one person you wanted to impress.
That is why plays come in regional versions. If you are building for a specific market, buy plays from that market. If you just need the counter to move, worldwide is cheaper and does the job.
A like is private. A repost puts your track into every follower's feed of the account that reposted it. On SoundCloud, discovery runs on reposts more than on anything else — it is the platform's version of a share, and the algorithm treats it as a stronger signal than a play.
So the proportion is inverted compared to other platforms. On Instagram you would buy likes to make views look real. On SoundCloud you buy reposts to make plays go somewhere.
