If you came here looking for IGTV strategy, the short answer is that IGTV no longer exists. Instagram retired the standalone app and the separate IGTV format in 2022 and folded everything into one place: Instagram Video, with Reels as the format the recommendation feed actually pushes. This page is what replaced it, and what each part of it costs.
IGTV launched in 2018 as Instagram's answer to long-form video: a separate app, a separate tab, a vertical format up to an hour long. It never found an audience. The app was discontinued, the tab was removed, and long-form uploads became ordinary Instagram video posts. Anything you published to IGTV is still on your profile — it is simply a video post now.
The strategic point is that Instagram stopped treating video length as a category. What it distinguishes now is where a video can be recommended, and that is the Reels surface.
These are not interchangeable, and the services that apply to them are not either.
From the live price list, per 1,000, cheapest buyable rate:
| Service | From / 1,000 | Min order | Options |
|---|---|---|---|
| Video and Reels views | $0.01 | 100 | 19 services |
| Impressions and reach | $0.06 | 100 | 14 services |
| Story views | $0.08 | 100 | 4 services |
| Likes | $0.04 | 10 | 86 services |
| Saves | $0.06 | 10 | 5 services |
Video views are the cheapest thing on Instagram — a dollar covers a hundred thousand of them. That is not because they are worthless; it is because supply is abundant and no supplier has to work hard to deliver a view.
Eight cents per 1,000 against one cent for video views is an eight-fold difference, and people assume it is a mistake. It is not. A story view has to be delivered inside a twenty-four hour window to a specific ephemeral object, and there is no way to catch up afterwards. The supply is narrower and the timing is unforgiving.
There are four story-view services on the panel against nineteen for video and Reels views. If your goal is to make a profile look active to people already following you, stories are the honest place to spend. If your goal is discovery, they do nothing at all — stories are not recommended to strangers, ever.
Views count plays. Impressions count how many times the post was displayed, including repeatedly to the same person. Reach counts distinct accounts. A post can have 10,000 impressions and 3,000 reach, and that is normal.
Buying impressions and reach at $0.06 per 1,000 makes the insights panel look coherent — a post with 50,000 views and 900 impressions reads as broken to anyone who checks. If nobody is checking your insights, skip it and spend the money on views.
Bought views do not change how long real viewers watch, and completion rate is what the Reels ranking cares about most. A ten-second Reel that people finish will out-travel a sixty-second one they abandon, no matter what either arrived with.
The honest framing: seeding gets a video past the state where nobody has seen it, so nobody sees it. Everything after the first hour is the video's own work.
